The Graduate Retention Program creates, formalizes or enhances internship programs for area businesses throughout Northeast Indiana. The focus is on quality, meaningful experiences for students. Assistance for businesses in facilitating student placements is available through our network with area universities.

Employers are able to post internship opportunities on IndianaINTERNnet. Utilize this growing resource in addition to college career services departments, internship coordinators and other traditional resources.

Workforce Challenge

While Indiana ranks 11th for producing college graduates with bachelor's degrees, the state ranks 46th in the percentage of adults over age 25 with a bachelor's degree or more.

Between 1995 and 2000, Indiana lost more recent college graduates than any other state.

As the economy has shifted from manufacturing to knowledge based, Indiana has fallen behind. Our average was was 3% above the national average in 1979, but fell to 17% below average in 2000.

Indiana loses 36% of college grads each year.

This compares to 20% for Michigan and 21% for Wisconsin.
